Something Old - Something New
Recent paintings by Glen Gillard

Something Old - Something New is Mitchelton artist Glen Gillard's first solo exhibition in two years. Featuring some of his favourite works painted over a 10-year period, the exhibition includes an eclectic mix of subjects painted in oils: from Brisbane’s beautiful old buildings such as the Baptist Tabernacle in Wickham Terrace, St Martin’s in Ann Street, the city, and the iconic Brisbane City Hall, to beguiling floral still life compositions. In between there is a boutique collection of paintings based on his series of baskets and wonderful portraits that beckon the viewer to enquire further about each subject's provenance.

Glen is one of the art world's quiet achievers learning painting techniques from life's experiences, trial and error. He has been a fulltime professional artist since 1979.

His main passion is plein air painting preferring to capture rural landscapes as the light changes. He is equally fascinated by the urban landscape.

Although Glen receives commissions for his portraiture, he is the first to admit his current love is painting still life, especially of the floral variety: "The composition captures a story; it reveals something old and something new."
